Messages from our Heads of Year:
Year 7
It has been another fantastic term for all of you in Year 7.
One of the biggest highlights for me hasn't happened yet but it soon will after the Easter holidays. Well done to all of you in Year 7 who have been part of the Matilda Production! This was something you had to step outside of your comfort zone to do not long after you first joined us and to see how far you have come is exceptional. I would also like to congratulate our sports teams who have done us proud by getting out to fixtures and giving their best. Whilst not every result has gone our way, I want to congratulate you on showing such confidence and determination. This culminated in a fantastic 2 day Greenshaw Learning Trust Tournament and I am proud of all of the Year 7s that represented us as Henley Bank High School. The Spring Term is always an interesting term for Year 7 as friendships begin to evolve and we start to feel more settled in Secondary school life. I can't believe that next term, we will start looking to you, Year 7, as role models for our Year 6s who will begin their transition with us. I look forward to seeing all of you conducting yourself with the ambition, confidence and respect that always makes me proud to be your Head of Year.
Year 8
This term for Year 8 has been full of success of which I couldn't be prouder! Sporting achievements have been high this term with our Football team progressing to the District semi-finals, showing amazing levels of ambition, determination and contributing to the wider success of Henley Bank High School.
More highlights included our trip to Hartpury College where some students tested their coaching and sports knowledge as well as seeing all the phenomenal facilities and attractions that Hartpury has to offer. Our Brilliant club started their work with Oxford University and the whole of the year group came together to create some innovative ways for schools to become greener on our Geography Day.
I hope Year 8 all have a restful break following all the success of this term, ready to continue to thrive as we come back!
Year 9
What a term it has been for year 9! Year 9 have had an excellent term, filled with the beginnings of new adventures. Year 9 have been weighing up their futures to make choices about their GCSE options, showing great determination and ambition. This determination has continued to manifest for some of our year, who have taken part in the trials for our final Ten Tors team. Congratulations to those of you through to the final team – I cannot wait to hear about your adventures in the final competition. It has also been lovely hearing about the volunteering and new skills being learnt for everyone’s Duke of Edinburgh award. I look forward to the upcoming expeditions. Finally, I want to say a huge well done to those who took part in the G15 concert. You showed huge amounts of confidence and creativity.
Year 10
Since September the Year 10s have been working on their communication and I have loved seeing this develop in each of them in their own ways. Through approaching companies and businesses for work experience, to engaging with in-depth conversations with staff members I have been so proud to see how the Year 10s are growing into polite and respectful young adults. This half term has also seen many of the Year 10s complete parts of their PSAs in various subjects and has required the students to show perseverance, determination and hard work to ensure they are doing the very best they can. I am incredibly impressed by how these students have thrown themselves into the challenge and really pushed themselves. I cannot wait to see the continued hard work of the Year 10s next term.
Year 11
We're nearly there now, and ready to make our final push to reach the summit of our academic mountain. The final push is laid out right ahead of us, we know what steps we have to take, and how to take them - it is now simply about taking them. This term could be summed up with the word Maturity. That is how best to describe our phenomenal year 11 cohort. They have taken responsibility, invested in their futures, and grown hugely as people. I am really excited to see what they achieve this summer, and as they take their next steps into the world of tomorrow.
