Pupil Premium
Introduced in 2011, the Pupil Premium Grant is a government initiative where schools receive a sum of money to help disadvantaged students. The purpose of this funding is to raise attainment and close the gap between disadvantaged students and their peers.
Schools are allocated funding using data recorded by the school census. For a school to qualify to receive additional funding a student must have been eligible for free school meals within the last 6 years. Other students who would fall into the pupil premium category include those who have been looked after by the local authority for more than 6 months or those pupils who are children of service personnel.
Schools can choose how to spend their pupil premium money and the following areas have been identified to benefit pupil premium pupils and close the gap.
Aim:
To raise standards in literacy, mathematics, and behaviour to ensure there is progress for all students.
Objectives:
- The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these students in English and Maths.
- Identify any underlying inequalities between children eligible for Pupil Premium and others and where possible remove these barriers.
- Improve the attendance of children eligible for Pupil Premium so that they are able to make better progress.
- Raise aspirations of students who are eligible for the Pupil Premium.
