GCSE Geography Field Trip

On another soggy day in September, our intrepid GCSE students battled through the dense vegetation of the Forest of Dean to find a fast flowing river.

Here the bravest of them jumped in the water, equipped with measuring tape, stop watch and an orange, they measured the velocity of the river, and how it changes slightly as the river flows down hill.

The fieldwork is an important part of their GCSE, gives them experience of how the project cycle of the working world works, and creates an opportunity to see the geographical theory of the classroom in action.

Only a few fell in, and after lunch in a beautiful setting, we pilled back on the coach a little bit damper and considerably quieter than when we arrived.
