Ten Tors - February
This term, a number of our students continued their involvement in our popular Ten Tors programme, in which students participate in a number of adventurous expeditions to Dartmoor, developing their fitness, resilience, independence, teamwork, and navigational skills
This term's trip allowed student to build on existing achievements with great success, as each member battled adverse weather, rigorous terrain, and the complexities of navigation, before finally experiencing their first night in the wilderness.
The students rose to each of these challenges magnificently, and received particular praise from teachers of other participating schools for their exceptional maturity and team spirit, and the respect and kindness they demonstrated towards others - in short, they did the school proud!
Student reflections:
- 'The most reflective moment I had with the most recent ten tors training was the views and how going in the great outdoors changes your mindset positively instead of being on my phone.'
- 'Overall I enjoyed everything, being outdoors, working as a team and the overall scenery of Dartmoor. If I had to say one thing it would be being with the team. I really enjoyed it when everyone celebrated because we successfully climbed a tor or got the right place. I enjoyed getting to know people that I would not normally interact with and making new friends.'
- 'One thing our group were amazing at was supporting each other. It was raining, windy and just horrible weather but to lift up our mood we all started to play I spy on the way back through the forest. Some of the teammates also decided to sing some songs and we were just asking each other if we were OK.'
